Reviews
We were going to a concert in the Wilhelmina church. This place is a stone's throw away and turned out to be a great place to eat. Kind staff, great tasting food and wine.
What an amazing time we had! We have a place a few doors down from Ferdinand’s and although my partner has been a few times without me this was our first experience together and definitely not our last. When we arrived it was early in the evening and we had a choice of seating so we sat down in the small elevated area under some vintage photos of the neighborhood. Two of the photos had our place in them which was quite cool to see and we felt right at home.
The meal and drinks were exceptional - fresh, savory, and each course a surprise. For example, at one point a small beet root dish came out with the chef’s own sauce. I’m normally not a fan of beets but that night I devoured it! Simply delicious.
Two things I would suggest because they were so unexpected: the dessert trio and their own house-brewed pilsner. The desserts were a delight and I’d go back specifically for that just because of the variety of flavors. And the beer was smooth and creamy, not what I typically expect in a pils. It was more like a Belgian blonde, my favorite.
Please visit Ferdinand’s if you are in the area. The staff are friendly, the food and drinks are divine, and the atmosphere is cozy. Thank you so much for such an amazing evening!
Although we were early for our reservation, we were promptly seated. Ferdinands offers excellent rustic French cuisine well worth a special trip if you’re anywhere near the area and favor unfussy traditional cooking served in a most hospitable environment. An entrée special of vol au vent with chicken was substantial and the pastry flaky while a traditional pate had a welcoming chunkiness too often missing in pureed imitations. Classic mains of veal sweetbreads and confit de canard were equally well executed and a supplement of seared foie gras was very well prepared. The meal’s only weakness was at the end with the chef’s selection of deserts which were a let-down after the high level of the preceding courses.
Amazing food and the service was extraordinary. It's a very cozy restaurant with a truly enchanting atmosphere.
Delicious food and lovely staff, cozy but not fancy. And prices are high.
Overall good place to eat but I miss something for 5 stars...
This restaurant is run by two proper Francophiles. The menu is tasteful and somewhat refined and they have found a few good wines “off the beaten track”. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is cosy (as far as cosy goes in times of Corona).
Good food, pleasant atmosphere, nice service
